Overview

The Department of Biostatistics is offering a internship programme for upto six recently completed postgraduate students of biostatistics. The internship programme is designed for motivated postgraduate students with a strong interest in data analysis to exposure to research projects. Interns will have the opportunity to know about the statistical consultation work and contribute to individual data-driven research projects.  Internship will provide hands-on experience in application of statistical methods, and carrying out data analysis, interpretation and presentation of findings for studies from different areas of research.

The program goals include

  • Familiarize with the data-analytic research projects in health research
  • Analyze  real-world biomedical data
  • Develop statistical computing skills in one of programming languages (R, STATA or SAS)
  • Develop oral and written presentation skills
  • Understand options of higher studies or careers in Biostatistics

Eligibility criteria

  • Completed post-graduation in biostatistics, statistics or demography from a state or central Government recognized University/College/Institute. Student pursuing post-graduation (second year) may apply and application will be reviewed on a case to case basis.
  • Proficiency in a statistical programming language (R, Python, STATA or SAS)
  • A strong academic record

Application should be submitted two months prior to the period of internship requested. Candidates will be selected based on interview. The internship is a period of four to six months. Upon successful completion of the internship (based on the approval of supervisor), the intern will be awarded a certificate.

Candidates will have to make their own arrangements for accommodation, local travel and any other expenses during internship period. A modest stipend may be available for recent graduates depending on their academic level and availability of funds.
