About CMC Biostatistics

cmc-biostatistics

Greetings!

Department of Biostatistics at CMC involves development and application of statistical methods to scientific research in areas such as medicine, public and environmental health and genetics. Biostatisticians play an inevitable role in designing the studies, analyzing data, presenting findings and creating new methods for addressing problems. Biostatisticians interact and work in close collaboration with clinicians, basic scientists, and public health researchers.

The Department of Biostatistics was founded in 1964 with a mission to:

  1. Develop and apply statistical methods to tackle contemporary problems in health sciences,
  2. Collaborate and integrate with research programs of biomedical investigators from various research areas in public health and clinical medicine, and
  3. Run a first-class graduate program to train our next generation of Biostatisticians.

Our department offers a PhD degree and a MSc degree with a focus on developing analytical and computational expertise. Our students gain applied knowledge of statistical methods from the practical exposures to statistical consultation environments that involve engaging with researchers from clinical and public health disciplines. Graduates from our program have found roles in academia, industry, and government nationally and internationally.

Major research activities include both applied and methodological studies; applied areas include adverse birth outcomes and infant growth,  household healthcare access and utilization, adult chronic diseases – diabetes and cardiovascular diseases. Methodological research areas include longitudinal designs and analysis, life-course epidemiology, clinical trial methods, spatial and time-series methods, and development and analysis of patient registries.

Thank you for your interest in our department! We look forward to meeting with you in the near future.
